If you ask the average person the size of the tyres they have on their car, most people won’t be able to tell you right away. In fact, many people may not even know where to look to find their tyre size or what any of the information means.

If you are shopping for tyres, knowing the size you need is important if you want to get the right tyres for your vehicle. There are a couple of ways you can find out this information.

What Size are My Tyres?

The easiest and most accurate way to find out your size of your tyre is to look on the side of the Tyre

The Photo below shows an Example:

What Size Tyres do I Need?

If your tyres display numbers such as 165/65R 14 79 T, this is the tyre type for your car. In this example, the 165 is what the width of your tyre is in millimetres. The 65 indicates the ratio or profile of your tyres. The letter R lets you know what type of tyre it is – in this case, the R stands for radial. The number 14 is the diameter of the wheel rim in inches.

The next number, the 79, is the load index of the tyre, letting you know the maximum weight the tyres can safely hold up. The last letter, H, indicates the maximum speed rating for the tyres. The ratings go from A to Y and go up in increments.

Take the time to learn your tyre size so you can be sure that you always get the right tyres for your car for the best performance and safety.
